Take a walk down memory lane! On Friday evening, May 22, downtown Livermore Falls will be transformed as History Night unfolds. Sponsored by the Livermore Falls Downtown Betterment Group, History Night is a tribute to the heritage of this area. The annual event is well appreciated for it's display of antique automobiles, traditional crafts, photos, new clippings, postcards, and recollections of years past. Music, food and entertainment add to the rich possibilities for fun and learning. The Heritage and Paper Museum of Maine on Church Street will be open from 4-8 p.m. The Museum has been in its lovely home for about a year, a building that was once the mill manager's home for International Paper. More recently the mansion was used for office space for I.P. It is the Directors' commitment to "create an exciting interactive museum where visitors can experience life in a paper-making community." A horse drawn wagon will run between the downtown and the Museum for History Night. The Livermore Falls Historical Society has generously supported History Night since it's inception—and will be joined this year by exhibits from the Jay Historical Society. New for History Night 2009 will be a plant sale, sprightly cloggers, a varied quilting exhibition and two new eateries just opening in Livermore Falls. The Androscoggin Bank will house a massive perennial sale to benefit Treat Memorial Library. Call the Library at 897-3631 if you would like to donate plants. Adding striking percussion and visual interest will be the Moose Creek Cloggers. Although the members have changed somewhat over the years, this group has been clogging for about twenty years. This form of folk dance is believed to have originated in the British Isles. Clogging is known for it's loud and fast footwork. Janet Davis is coordinating a varied fabric arts exhibit in the space adjacent to Fitness Stylz on Depot street. Quilters from local Village Scrappers and Country Square Quilters and others will do tacking on a quilt and display their work. Large quilts, smaller wall hangings and other quilted items will be displayed. An invitation is extended to other quilters to join in. Call Janet Davis at 897-5397 if you would like to participate. For those who wonder what it would be like to live in the early 1900's, period clothing will be on hand as props for a memorable portrait. See yourself in a whole new way! There will be an array of country, bluegrass and folk music at the Gazebo. Performers include The Black Mountain Hobo Band with Helena Starr; Narrow Gauge String Band; Randy and Travis Pinkham. History Night is an engaging celebration of the town's heritage for folks of all ages. Visit the website at www.HistoryNight.org for photos from prior History Nights. Call 897-6158 for more information.
